Videography Suggestions
You have full creative control of your production. However, please take this responsibility seriously by keeping your audience in mind. The following guidelines will help minimize some basic problems with many web-based videos.
- The subject (actor) should wear lighter colored clothing on darker backgrounds
- For most shots, mount cameras on the floor so you shoot the subject from below or on level
- Frame your subject centrally so that little or no camera motion is needed
- The more jerky motion in your video, the smaller the moving subject should appear in the frame
- Use bright spaces with direct sunlight or some extra lighting and reflecting equipment
- Find spaces with minimal echo. Make sure your vocals are clear and audible. Use a microphone if possible. You may want to use software to add non-copyrighted background music in later on another audio track.
- Use video editing software (commercial or free online tools) if you want to include visual effects. They can be playful or instructive, but keep in mind that most of your viewing audience will likely favor simplicity.
